The 14th Hogeschool Zeeland Chess Tournament is set to take place on 7-14th August in Vlissingen, Netehrlands. The tournament is organised by the Stichting Schaak Walcheren, and consists of 9 rounds, Swiss system. The rate of play is 40 moves in 2 hours, followed by 30 minutes for the completion of the game. A bye is only possible in the 2nd and 3rd round.

So back to my impressions of this wonderfully organized international event. I am going to utilize this writing to document the way the Turkish Chess Federation is executing the event. There are striking similarities and differences between how this event is executed and how events are executed in the US. I think there are important lessons for US organizers to take away.
The exciting Open Andora 2010 has finished this weekend in the beautiful St.Gothard’s Hotel. Going into the final rounds, many players were sharing the top position at the table, while the chasing pack was even bigger, giving chances to more than 25 players to win the first position.
The last round paired up some of the strongest players in the field, which agreed to multiple grandmaster draws. This was cleverly used by IM Dan Zoeler, who stunned GM Edouard Romain and snatched first position in the final standings.
